About Jury Duty in Oregon

Oregon pays $10 per day for the first two days in circuit courts, increasing to $25 per day from day 3 onward. Non-circuit courts pay a flat $10/day. Mileage reimbursement is $0.20/mile in circuit courts and $0.08/mile in non-circuit courts. Portland’s Multnomah County offers transit passes.

How Jury Pay Works

Under ORS § 10.061 (compensation) and ORS § 10.065 (mileage), circuit court jurors receive $10/day for days 1-2 and $25/day from day 3. Non-circuit court jurors receive $10/day flat. Mileage is $0.20/mile (circuit) or $0.08/mile (non-circuit), among the lowest mileage rates in the country. Oregon is a “one day or one trial” state — an early adopter of the system, though Massachusetts is widely credited as the first state to implement it statewide (1988).

Multnomah County

Portland’s Multnomah County operates the state’s busiest jury system. TriMet transit passes are available. Major employers — Nike, Intel, Providence Health — typically continue full salary during jury service.

Employer Obligations

Oregon employers are not required to pay wages during jury service, though they cannot penalize employees. If an employer does pay wages, the juror must waive the state fee. The two-tier dynamic familiar from California and Washington is equally present in Oregon.

How Oregon Compares

Oregon’s $10/$25 tiered circuit court rate and low mileage reimbursement put it below the national median. Neighboring Washington allows $10–$25/day and California pays $0/$15. Federal jurors in Oregon’s single district receive $50/day — substantially more for days 1-2, though comparable to the $25 circuit court rate on day 3+.
